Girolamo "Jerry", 95, of Clearwater, FL, passed on to be with his heavenly family on July 8, 2015 at Palm Garden Nursing Facility in Clearwater. Jerry was born in Molfetta, Italy in 1920 and immigrated to Hoboken, NJ at a young age with his family. He was a US Army veteran who served in WWII in the Aleutian Islands. Following the war he returned to Italy and met the love of his life, Rena (DiGioia). They married in 1948 then returned to Hoboken to start a family then later to Ridgefield NJ. Jerry worked as a longshoreman in the ports of NJ and NY without missing a day of work. He and Rena enjoyed their early retirement years as snowbirds residing in Pompano Beach in the winters and their home in NJ before permanently settling in Clearwater in 2004. He is predeceased by his son, Gaetano, his brother, Sam Picca, and his sister, Lena Mezzina. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rena, his son, Joseph, Safety Harbor FL, his grandchildren Michael (Leslie), Mason OH, Alexander (Alexandra), Brendan and Sean, NYC; and, his great grandchildren Katie, Sarah and Megan. Also surviving are three sisters, Lucy Picca, Gina Magarelli, and Mary Paparella. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 14 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Ave, Ridgefield NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at on Wednesday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew R.C. Church, 555 Prospect Ave, Ridgefield. Entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview NJ.
