We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Blackley Funeral Home
Dennis James Caufield, 69, passed away on June 28, 2021, surrounded by his family at Hackensack University Medical Center. He valiantly fought a blood infection complicated by a stroke for five weeks. Dennis was born August 21, 1951 to Arthur and Sophie Caufield. He grew up in North Bergen with his younger sister Allison and married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Sherry in 1976. In 1987 they welcomed twin girls, Jackie and Kristen into this world. He worked hard as a pipe-fitter for Local 274, becoming a foreman and then a general foreman.
Dennis epitomized the family man, putting the needs of his wife and daughters first. He was always thinking of ways to surprise and make others feel special. Throughout his life he was always ready to help anyone who needed it. He lovingly cared for his elderly parents even as he himself became sick. When he found out he needed to go on dialysis, he convinced his wife to train with him to do hemodialysis at home.
Travel was a big part of Dennis’ life. Trips to London, Rome, Paris, Prague, Greece, and Scotland, have left indelible memories for his wife and children. Caribbean, Alaskan, Scandinavian, and Mediterranean Cruises along with the Cousins Trips to Ireland, Italy, and Germany will be remembered in the years to come. Dennis was a child at heart, so many Disney trips were on his travel itinerary. Dennis always said he wanted to travel while he could because who knew what the future held. He was the consummate host at the many holiday parties, creating Easter baskets for all his guests, serving more food than anyone could eat, and offering leftovers to take home.
Dennis is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee Sherry), his daughters Jackie and Kristen Caufield, his sister, Allison Spaulding and her husband Jack, a grand-dog Farley, along with nieces and nephews and many cousins and their families.
