Vincent Frick of Ridgefield, New Jersey, passed away on May 18, 2025, at age 81. He is survived by his wife Karen; daughter Candace Thorson (Adam); son Andrew (Jean); granddaughters Maddie and Alexa; brother Roger; and many nephews and cousins.
A biology teacher for more than 40 years at Dumont High School and at local colleges, Vin was a faithful parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church in Ridgefield, serving as treasurer, usher, vestry member, and church school teacher for five decades. He was an enthusiastic golfer and member of the “Tee to Green” golfing club — a group of Dumont High retirees who drove for miles each week to golf courses in NJ, NY, and PA.
Vin loved gardening and flowers and caring for the numerous annuals he could see from his kitchen window. He was thoughtful and intelligent, deeply interested in science, history, and many other topics, and always willing to share what he knew. Some of his fondest memories were of the family’s annual vacations to Long Beach Island. No seafood restaurant ever got old, no ocean view ever got boring.
He appreciated quiet time with family as well as meeting and talking to new people — somehow, no one was a stranger for very long — and had an excellent sense of direction, usually, and always a good sense of humor. In his early years, Vin played first base for a successful youth baseball team, and he maintained a life-long interest in various sports.
Please join the family as they celebrate his life on Friday, May 23 from 4-7 p.m. at Blackley Funeral Home. Funeral service on Saturday, May 24 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church. Interment to follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charitable cause of your choice would be appreciated.
