Robert Nichols Obituary

RIDGEWOOD - Robert E. Nichols, 89, formerly of Ridgefield and Union City, died on Dec. 1.

Retiring in 1986, he was a high school special education teacher for the New York City Board of Education for 20 years. He was a member, usher and past treasurer of St. James Episcopal Church in Ridgefield. He was a member of the Seniors of Ridgefield and the VFW Post of Ridgefield Park. He served during World War II as part of the Chemical Warfare Invasion of Okinawa 10th Army.

He is survived by his children, Elaine Luciani of Sayre, Pa. and husband Robert and Patricia Matich and husband Robert of Keansburg; and his grandchildren, Noah, Tonia, Robert, Clayton and Joseph. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Wilson); and his siblings, Amelia, Elinor and Thomas.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Ave. in Ridgefield.

Cremation will be private.
