Mildred THALER Obituary

THALER Mildred, 89, a resident of Ridgefield for almost 60 years and onetime secretary to the principal of the Slocum Skewes School there, died February 9th at the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale, NY. Mrs. Thaler was the widow of Norbert Thaler, onetime president of the Ridgefield Board of Education, and the Schiffli Embroidery and Lace Association. He died in 1971 and 20 years later Millie, as everyone knew her, married Lou Sciacchetano, a longtime neighbor and widower and twice chief of the Ridgefield Fire Department. Mr. Schicchetano died in 2007. Before her marriage to Norbert Thaler in 1944, Millie had worked in her family embroidery manufacturing business, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She also had a passion for the beach in Mattituck, Long Island, where she spent many days as both a child and an adult. She is survived by her four children: Marsha Thaler Smith of Washington, DC, Elaine Richard of Ukiah, CA; Mary Frances Fleming of Ridgefield; and Andrew Thaler of Hewitt, NJ; also, a granddaughter, Laura Thaler McFarland of Alexandria, VA; and a great-grandson, Sam McFarland; also, four step-grandchildren, a sister-in-law and six nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield on Sunday, Feb. 14 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, Feb. 15 at the English Neighborhood Reformed Church at 1040 Edgewater Avenue, Ridgefield. Interment to follow at Ridgefield Cemetery.
