Marie Vellucci

VELLUCCI - Marie of Ridgefield, NJ, died peacefully in her sleep on March 13, after a long bout with cancer. She was 83. Marie, born Mary Magdalene Hand in St John's Newfoundland, September 8, 1922, was one of ten children. During World War II, she sang and danced with the USO, entertaining American troops and there she met her husband, Julio Vellucci and had a son, Leonard. In 1949, the family moved to Ridgefield and Marie had been a member of St Mathew's Parish since that time. Known also as
"Buzzy
" Marie sang for many years with the Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Group in Ridgewood, NJ and regularly performed in local theater productions. Her husband and son passed away in 1978. She is survived by a brother, Pierce Hand of Hobe Sound, FL, a sister, Theresa Hand-Donahoe, of Littleton, CO, daughter-in-Law Penny Vellucci of North Brunswick, NJ, grandchildren Laurie Smith of Stamford, CT, Leonard Vellucci Jr of Langhorn, PA. and Cara Vellucci of North Brunswick, NJ, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The wake will be held at Blackley Funeral Home (www.blackleyfuneral home.com) in Ridgefield, NJ on Wednesday, March 15, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home Thursday at 8:30 AM, with a funeral Mass following at St. Matthew's R.C. Church in Ridgefield, NJ at 9:30 AM. Interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 140 Littleton Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.
