Marcos Aurelio Asan Ubilla

Marcos Aurelio Asan Ubilla, 81, of Ridgefield, NJ, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2026, at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Marcos was born on April 27, 1945, in Milagro, Ecuador, to German Asan and Petra Asan Ubilla. He came to the United States as a young man, landing first in New York City, and then resided in Ridgefield, NJ, the town he would call home for the rest of his life.

He and his wife, Mildred, built Douglas Scallop & Lace Cutting in West New York, NJ, together, and while they ran the business they raised four children, Roxanne, Marcos, Ron, and Stephanie, with the same long hours and the same care.

Marcos worked tirelessly his whole life, and he did it smiling. He was a talented artist, too, and he painted many portraits of the family he loved. Anything that broke, he would fix with his hands. The doors of his home were always open, and no one left hungry or without a laugh. He gave without being asked: his time, his hands, whatever he had. More than anything, he loved being a grandfather.

Marcos was predeceased by his beloved son, Marcos Douglas, and by nine of his ten siblings. He leaves behind his wife, Mildred; his daughter Roxanne; his son Ron and his wife, Maria; his daughter Stephanie and her husband, Paul; his seven grandchildren, Andrea, Arianna, Marcus, Marcos, Adrienne, Mackenzie, and Nolan, who were the light of his life; his sister, Germania; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday from 6-9pm at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ 07657. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30am at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Ridgefield. Marcos will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, 500 Fairview Avenue, Fairview, NJ, beside his son.

Marcos nació el 27 de abril de 1945 en Milagro, Ecuador, hijo de German Asan y Petra Asan Ubilla. Llegó a los Estados Unidos siendo joven, primero a la ciudad de Nueva York, y luego residió en Ridgefield, NJ, el pueblo que sería su hogar por el resto de su vida.

A Marcos le precedieron en la muerte su querido hijo, Marcos Douglas, y nueve de sus diez hermanos. Deja a su esposa, Mildred; a su hija Roxanne; a su hijo Ron y su esposa, Maria; a su hija Stephanie y su esposo, Paul; a sus siete nietos, Andrea, Arianna, Marcus, Marcos, Adrienne, Mackenzie y Nolan, que fueron la luz de su vida; a su hermana, Germania; y a muchos sobrinos, sobrinas y amigos que lo extrañarán profundamente.

Se invita a familiares y amigos a asistir al velatorio el miércoles de 6:00 p. m. a 9:00 p. m. en la Funeraria Blackley (Blackley Funeral Home), ubicada en 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ 07657. Se celebrará una Misa de Cuerpo Presente el jueves a las 10:30 a. m. en la Iglesia Católica Romana de San Mateo (St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church), en Ridgefield. Marcos recibirá cristiana sepultura en el Cementerio Fairview (Fairview Cemetery), ubicado en 500 Fairview Avenue, Fairview, NJ, al lado de su hijo.
