Our beloved Livia (Lee) Steiner passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2024, at 97 years old.
Born in New York City, to Amelia Muxo Pagan and Manuel Pagan, she and her older sister, Grace, spent their childhood growing up in Washington Heights and Brooklyn. Lee was a tomboy, who not only enjoyed the academics but also participating ALL the sports.
Lee met the love of her life, the late Roy Steiner, as a blind date. They were married in 1951 and were together for 40 years. A longtime resident of Ridgefield, NJ, she is survived by her children, Kathy Bruzik with her husband Pete, Wayne Steiner, the late Doreen Steiner, Debi Clough, Deneen Murawinski with Joe, and Stephanie Sherman with Mike. She was also blessed with twelve grandchildren and five great grands.
From a very early age, Lee loved to sing, and the neighborhood enjoyed listening. As an adult, she was a member of the Teaneck Chorale. Lee was also a gifted artist but kept it as a hobby that often benefited her children. Whether painting flagstones on the basement floor, making a complete play kitchen out of boxes, clowns to pin the nose onto, or landscapes to hang on the wall, they were beautiful or fun, and always extraordinary. Her guilty pleasures included bowling with a group from St. Matthew’s, gambling at the casinos with Debi and trips with the seniors in town. Lee, along with about ten other ladies, would meet 1 or 2 Fridays a month for Coffee Klatch. These ladies raised their children and grew old together. Their friendship was special.
Friends and family will gather at Blackley’s Funeral Home between 5 and 8 pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, for remembrance and blessing. Burial will be private.
If you wish to honor her memory, the family is kindly asking that you make a contribution in her name to either the American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/ ). Thank you.
