Dr. Joyce E. Schelling (née Schmeling) was born and raised in Allen County, IN, graduating from New Haven High School in 1956. She entered the convent of the Poor Sisters of Saint Francis in Mishawaka, IN in 1959. As Sister M. Jude, OSF, she completed her BA in English at Saint Francis College in Fort Wayne and her MA in drama at Catholic University in Washington, DC. She taught English and drama in various Catholic schools in Indiana, including St. Mary's (Griffith), Huntington Catholic High School, and Saint Francis College.
After returning to secular life and moving to New Jersey in 1970, she continued teaching in New Jersey and New York schools, colleges and universities, including South Plainfield High School, St. Thomas Aquinas College (Sparkill, NY) and New York University in New York City. She obtained her Ph.D. in English from New York University in 1987.
After 20 years of teaching, Dr. Schelling joined the computer industry as a technical marketing specialist and worked for various software, Internet and communications companies until her retirement from AT&T in New York City in 2002.
Dr. Schelling is survived by her sister, Jann Prince, owner of Jann's Power Gym in Fort Wayne, and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At the request of the decedent, no services are scheduled. Following direct cremation, final disposition will be at sea in the Atlantic Ocean.
