SHIEL
Joseph J., of Ridgefield, NJ, formerly of Jersey City, NJ, entered into eternal rest on December 8, 2013 at the age of 88. Devoted husband of the late Pearl Shiel who died in 1997. Beloved father of Ann Marie Povinelli of Ridgefield, NJ and her husband Matthew, and Dennis J. Shiel of Wyckoff, NJ and his wife Diana. Cherished grandfather of Amanda Povinelli of Lake Hiawatha, NJ, Blair Shiel of Manhattan, NY, and Christopher Shiel of Manhattan, NY and his wife Kathryn Cellino-Shiel. Loving brother of Mary Tonachio and the late William Shiel. Joseph served in WWll in the Navy stationed in the South Pacific. He began his career pouring metal in a foundry and progressed to senior management. Before retirement, Joseph had been President of Marketing and Sales for Howmet Corp. in Connecticut. He was a parishioner of St. Matthew's RC Church, a member the Seniors, and a member of the VFW, all of Ridgefield. Throughout his life Joseph had been active in civic affairs, politics and volunteerism. Visiting will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ (201)945-5032. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 AM to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Matthews RC Church, 555 Prospect Ave., Ridgefield on Thursday at 10:15 AM. Interment to follow at Ridgefield Cemetery, Ridgefield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
