ALBANESE Joseph, age 94, of Ridgefield, NJ, passed away on August 15, 2010. Born in Italy on June 18, 1916, he was a WWII Army veteran, a D-Day survivor, who fought on the shores of Omaha Beach, wounded in action and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Margie) of almost 65 years. Loving father to Jack and his daughter-in-law Helen, Joseph, his wife Eileen and predeceased by a son Frank 1994. Most cherished grandpa to Joseph and his wife Dawn, Jacqueline, Dan, Steven and Caitlin. Loving great-grandfather to Sophia and Alexandra. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In his youth Joe played semi-pro soccer in Italy. After the war he established a business and was co-owner of the Yankee Tower Diner in Fairview where many customers knew him for his "Joe Special." He most enjoyed being with his family, his true passion. His pastime was growing vegetables in his garden and playing cards with his beloved Margie. He was loyal, devoted, dedicated, and a committed man of integrity to all who knew him. He was a member of the Ridgefield Senior Community Center and a longtime parishioner of St. Matthew's R.C. Church, Ridgefield. Visiting will be at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Ave., Ridgefield, NJ (201) 945-5032 on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday to attend the Funeral Mass 10:15 AM at St. Matthew's R.C. Church, Ridgefield.
