John Van Velthoven
Hackensack - John Van Velthoven of Hackensack and Ridgefield NJ, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on September 12, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. John was born November 23, 1924 in Antwerp, Belgium and immigrated to the United States in 1960. He became a naturalized US citizen in 1965.
He dedicated his life to public service, working for 26 years for the Ridgefield Department of Public Works and serving as a volunteer firefighter for more than 25 years. His tenure as firefighter included terms as Battalion Chief (1978), Deputy Chief (1979), and Chief (1980). John is survived by his second wife, Ann Reysen Van Velthoven, a daughter, two step-daughters, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
For those who wish to honor and celebrate John, the wake will be held 4-8 pm Wednesday, September 19th and the funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday, September 20th at Blackley Funeral Home in Ridgefield, New Jersey.
