Helen Yakalis Obituary

Helen Yakalis

AGE: 67 • Jackson

Helen Yakalis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the age of 67. Helen was a graduate of Cliffside Park HS and New York University, where she worked in the library, after graduating, for 10 years. Until her passing, Helen worked for the Somerset County Library in Bridgewater. Helen lived in Washington Heights, NY, Palisades Park, NJ and, most recently, in Jackson, NJ. Helen was always a resource for any type of information, no matter if you wanted to hear it or not. Her favorite phrase, we will always remember was "I read that somewhere". Helen will truly be missed, by all, for her generosity, compassion and love for others. Helen always offered her kindness, advice and wisdom, always forgoing her own needs for the needs and concerns of others. She will always be remembered for her laughter, stubbornness, wit and charm, for playing the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz every Halloween, for her good and bad attempts at cooking Greek food, her love of holiday spirit and for just being "Our Helen". Helen requested that her services be a true celebration of her life.

Beloved sister to Peter and Nicholas Yakalis, sister-in-law to Donna Yakalis, aunt to Christian, Matthew, Alyssa, Samantha, Amanda Yakalis and Derek Gasquez, cousin to Michael, Pete and Michele, and niece to Nick and Fanoula Frank. Helen was also the beloved friend to Nicki, Cathy, Jim, Thalia, Judy, Kim and to many, many others whom she adored and who adored her, and, of course, her two wonderful cats, Elvis and Ralph.
