Gloria Rose Ann Carelli, a 76-year resident of Ridgefield, born in Jersey City, passed away on April 29, 2026, three weeks shy of her 101st birthday. She was predeceased by her daughter Denise, her husband Peter, and her cousin Anne.
In her younger years, Gloria loved to dress up and hit the town, and she lit up every dance floor she stepped onto. She took great pride in the family restaurant, Twin Gables, which was located in Fort Lee during the 1960s and 1970s. Her cooking was legendary among family, the kind of meals that made every gathering feel like a celebration and left everyone vying for leftovers. You never left her home hungry! Gloria also had a flair for the finer pleasures in life: a trip to Atlantic City to try her luck at the slots was always a favorite pastime, and a shopping trip was never just an errand, it was an event. She approached everything with the same zest and delight that defined her remarkable life.
When asked the secret to her longevity, Gloria kept it simple and kept it honest: "I do what I feel like doing." And if you were lucky enough to be at her table, that almost certainly included a glass of Asti shared with the people she loved most.
Gloria is survived by her son Paul, her grandchildren Adam and his wife Kara, Cassie and her husband Brian, and Samantha, her two great-grandchildren Gavin and Fiona, her niece Anita, and extended family in Maryland, California, Florida, Arizona and Wisconsin.
Visiting will be at Blackley Funeral Home in Ridgefield on Saturday, May 9th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Funeral Mass at Saint Matthew's Church in Ridgefield on Monday, May 11th at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly.
