Evelyn Meier Obituary

MEIER
Evelyn Parigoris, 93, a life-long resident of Palisades Park, went home to Our Lord on 3/6/16. She was surrounded by her beloved children Eline L. Meier and Dr. Edward C. Meier. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughter Madison, her cousin Kiriakos Kakouros and many relatives and friends that loved and adored her. To know her was to love her, and those who did describe her as loving, caring, patient, kind and selfless. Evelyn was devoted to caring for her family and volunteered much of her time to civic causes in her community. She was one of the founders of the Palisades Park Homeowner's Assoc., a member of the Bicentenial Committee and co-writer of its Historical Book, a member of the Board of Trustees of Englewood Hospital for 25 years and a volunteer there. She received the town's Person of the Year Award in 1996, and she chaired the town's Centennial Committee. She was also the Grand Marshall of the town's Memorial Day Parade. She was extremely patriotic and held dear to her heart, all members of the armed forces and her town's police and firefighters. She served as an air-raid warden in WWII. She was an amazing caregiver for her beloved husband Edward H. Meier, after he was stricken with Alzheimer's Disease. She honored her vow to our Lord, that if he gave her the strength to care for her husband, she would try to help other caregivers. Soon after he passed, she wrote the book, "When The Smiling Stops," a vivid account of their battle with Alzheimer's, and an extremely resourceful Caregiver's Guide. In her honor, her children will be continuing to make her book available to families of Alzheimer's patients around the world, in hopes of making their struggle easier and enabling a better quality of life for victims and caregivers alike. In lieu of flowers, donations to this effort would be greatly appreciated. Alzheimer's Hope and Cope, P.O. Box 501, Palisades Park, NJ 07650.
