SAMMARTINO
Eleanor (nee Dietrich), 95, of Ridgefield, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on April 10 with her family beside her. She was the devoted and loving mother of Bryan Sammartino and Claudia Sammartino, both of Ridgefield, and caring aunt to nine nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles "Sam" Sammartino, in 1956, and by her brothers George ("Tom") and Vincent Dietrich. She was a founding employee of Stern Brothers department store when it opened at the Bergen Mall in Paramus in 1957, where she worked for 29 years, first in the Art and Needle Craft department, and then in the receiving department and the back office.
A life-long resident of Ridgefield, she was a Golden Ager member of the Ridgefield Senior Citizens, and one of the last surviving members of the local Hilltoppers Social Club. She will be remembered most by those who loved her for her generous, kind, and pure heart and soul, her ever-thoughtful and always-helpful ways, her cheerful laugh, and her beautiful and easy smile. Visiting will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Ave., Ridgefield, NJ (201) 945-5032. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM for a funeral service there. Final Prayers will follow at the chapel in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, her favorite charity. For directions or to send condolences, please go to blackleyfuneral.com.
