Eleanor Festa
Ridgefield - 5/5/1930 - 5/5/2020
Eleanor Festa of Ridgefield, NJ passed away on May 5, 2020, her 90th birthday.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation at Blackley Funeral Home in Ridgefield. Instead, Pastor Janet Blair of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate a funeral service for immediate family. Burial will follow at the Ridgefield Cemetery.
Eleanor was the only child of Fred and Freda Bauer. She graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in 1948, and went on to work for Chase Bank in Manhattan. She married Frank Festa in 1952, settling back in Ridgefield in 1957. They were together for over 60 years.
Despite being assimilated into Frank's large Italian family, Eleanor made sure to honor her German roots. Her Sauerbraten, served with ginger snap gravy over potato dumplings, was legendary. Though the meal took three days to make, three generations of family looked forward to a Sauerbraten banquet on birthdays and Christmas every year!
After raising two sons, Eleanor resumed her career, working at Savarin Coffee until her retirement in 1995. She and Frank enjoyed volunteer work at the Ridgefield Senior Center and Eleanor was the treasurer of the Ridgefield Senior organization for many years. She was a wicked card player and enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City with the Seniors. When you tried your luck at the casinos, she would say "Don't call if you win, just send the limo!"
Eleanor is survived by her two sons; Raymond (Kristina) and David (Beth), and seven grandchildren; Steven, Kyle, Daniel, Michael, Jake, Mariel, and Ian. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Zion Lutheran Church, Ridgefield, NJ or Ridgefield Senior Citizens. An announcement will be forthcoming about a Celebration of Life sometime this fall.
