Eileen Patricia Schroeck (nee Leahy), age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 17, 2023, while in hospice care provided by her loving daughter Nancy. The daughter of Mary Ellen and Patrick James Leahy, Eileen was born and raised in the Chelsea section of New York City. She was working as a bank teller when she met and fell in love with James Marcel Schroeck; they were married on November 5, 1955. They set about starting a family and were blessed with three children, Patricia, James and Nancy. They moved to New Jersey and settled in Cliffside Park in 1967. They were active members of the American Legion in Ridgefield as James was an Army veteran who had served in Korea. They had a loving marriage for more than 40 years until James passed away in 1996.
Upon starting a family, Eileen stepped away from her career to dedicate her time to being a mother and raising her children. Once the children were all in high school, she resumed working and had a long and enriching career working as a Records Clerk at Fairleigh Dickenson University at the Teaneck/Hackensack campus. Eileen loved to travel and learn about her family history, making several trips to Ireland with family members to meet their many aunts, uncles and cousins who lived there. She retired in her 70s and spent her time enjoying life by focusing on the things she loved, her children and grandchildren, going to the Jersey shore with them every summer, spending time with her many friends at the American Legion, and cheering on her favorite teams – the New York Mets and Giants. In addition to her husband James, Eileen was predeceased by her son, James Ian Schroeck, her daughter Patricia Eileen Schroeck Pfaff, her sister Anne Freeman, and brother Jack Leahy. Her zest for life, quick wit and fun attitude will be missed and remembered by her daughter Nancy Ann Schroeck, son-in-law Harry Pfaff, and grandchildren, Tanner James Connors (Schroeck), Madeline Anne Pfaff and Katie Eileen Pfaff. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
