Brendan Morgan Obituary

Brendan Patrick Morgan, 86 of Toms River, NJ formerly of Ridgefield NJ, passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep on Sunday June 16th, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard (Barney) and Ellen (Nellie McCann) Morgan and brother Brian Morgan, and sisters-in-law Mary, Diane and Gerry.
Brendan was born in Jersey City and grew up in the Heights section on Manhattan Avenue. He attended St. Nicholas grammar school and Dickinson High School. Upon graduation from high school, Brendan attended the Newark College of Engineering while starting his career at Public Service Electric and Gas.  He retired from PSE&G in 2001, after 45 years of service.  Brendan also served  in the United States Army Reserve from 1960-1966  where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. 
As a young adult, Brendan enjoyed summers down the shore in Manasquan, NJ and he was a member of the Catholic Youth Organization. He always attended the CYO dances, which is where he met and eventually married his loving wife of 61 years…Carole (Brander).  They moved to Abbott Avenue in Ridgefield, NJ, a town they loved, where they raised their four children. He embraced his Irish heritage and instilled that love in his kids. He enjoyed listening to The Chieftons and Paddy Noonan as well as the symphony.  He was a fan of the New York Giants, classic cars and had a sweet tooth for some cherry vanilla ice cream. He was an avid reader who always had a book in hand.  He enjoyed reading both fiction and non fiction but was particularly passionate about history and war novels. He loved his grandchildren and found great joy in attending their baseball and softball games, dance recitals and school activities.
Brendan was humble , honest, reserved, loyal and a pillar of strength to all who knew him. He had so much wisdom and was the one we all went to for advice. Despite his tough Jersey City persona, he was very kind and gentle to those he loved. After moving to Toms River, he would bring home a bouquet of flowers to his wife, once a week because he knew it would brighten up her day. Brendan was a principled man. His parents raised him to be respectful and a gentleman. He would gladly accompany his wife daily to drive her to doctors appointments, grocery shopping or Island Heights, her favorite place, to walk and on occasion, have lunch together.
He will be missed terribly by the love of his life, his children and grandchildren but we will find comfort in remembering all the little things he did to show us how much he cared and how much he loved us.

Brendan is survived by his loving wife, Carole (Brander) his life partner, the person with whom he faced every challenge and celebrated every triumph;  his children Brendan and wife Rose Ann  of Toms River, Stephen and his wife Michele of Hillsdale, NJ, daughter Nancy Krebs and her husband Steve of Robbinsville, and David and his wife Rosemary of Maywood, NJ; grandchildren; Steven, Ryan, Alexis, Shea, Haley , Kaylee, Justin, Olivia and Abby. He is also survived by brothers Chris Morgan of Midlothian, VA and Kevin Morgan of Bogota, NJ, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, George and Chris Brander of Bergenfield, NJ. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Donations in memory of Brendan may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital

Friends and family are invited to a visitation for Brendan on Wednesday, June 19th 2024 from 4-8 PM at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue Ridgefield NJ. and again for a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday June 20, 2024 at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 555 Prospect Avenue Ridgefield, NJ.  Burial will be at Ridgefield Cemetery located at the English Neighborhood Reformed Church, 1040 Edgewater Ave, Ridgefield, NJ.
