Augustus Peek Obituary

PEEK
Augustus (Gus), of Ridgefield passed away on Thursday morning.
Gus Peek lived in the town of his birth his entire life, with only a brief interruption while in the service of his country in the United States Marine Corps. Gus always had a good joke for every situation and was a tireless fighter for open government and low taxes both as an outspoken taxpayer advocate and then as a proud member of Ridgefield's Borough Council. He will be remembered for his commitment to providing Ridgefield's teens with a place to call their own and led the fight to build the Teen Lounge and Patio at the pool complex in the 1970's. True to his code of low spending the majority of the project was funded through private donations and built by volunteer parents and teens. He was a founding member of the Ridgefield Republican Club and served as its President and member of the Executive Committee. Gus shared his political expertise and insights with countless candidates for local and higher office and served as Campaign Manager and Advisor on many successful campaigns.
One of three sons of a NJ State Police Officer and devoted mother, Gus was an entrepreneur who built a successful insurance and real estate business which operated from the Route 5 triangle in Ridgefield and was the hub of both local insurance sales and customer service excellence as well as the virtual political center of Ridgefield for many years.
Gus was a long time member and past officer of the Ridgefield Exchange Club and a parishioner of St. James Church.
He was loved and admired by many but by no one more than by his surviving wife Bea. They were partners in love and life and business in a way rarely seen. He was the loving son of Gus and Alice (both deceased), brother of Allen (deceased) and Harold, father of Steve and Kim, and father in law to Millie and devoted grandfather of Joy and Zach.
