Arthur DeBlasis, Jr Obituary

Arthur L. DeBlasis Jr. ,90, of North Bergen, New Jersey passed away on May 3, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Ridgefield, New Jersey, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on October 11th, 1933 in West New York, New Jersey to parents Elizabeth and Arthur DeBlasis Sr. Arthur had one brother, Ernie DeBlasis. Arthur served in the Korean War for two years and was then honorably discharged. Arthur then married the love of his life, Teresa Petrone and moved to North Bergen where he later had two children, Arthur and Debbie. Arthur was a devoted husband and the best father anyone could ever have. Arthur worked for PSE&G as an accountant, where he retired after 38 years.

Arthur’s greatest joy were his two grandchildren, Erika and Luke Becker who he spent endless hours babysitting and playing with. To them, he was “Gamps” and he was the most patient, fun, and loving grandpa they could have ever asked for.

Arthur always loved the Jersey Shore and the boardwalk where you could find him enjoying a Kohr’s ice cream cone, dipped in chocolate of course, or trying his luck at the big spinning wheels. Arthur also loved to play cards at the park with his friends, and he was good at it. He was a lover of all sports but his favorite thing to watch (or listen to) was Yankees baseball. He also loved to listen to jazz music on his transistor radio.

Arthur could almost always be seen wearing a plaid shirt, with a handkerchief and a piece of chocolate stuffed in his top pocket. He was a picky eater but he always loved his Italian coldcuts, fresh tomatoes, and anything chocolate. At work, he kept a desk drawer filled with chocolate and did the same at home. Even toward the end of his life, when he did not want to eat much, he still asked for his chocolate.

Arthur would often be described as a man of few words, quiet and reserved, but for those who were close to him, he was funny and very smart. He dedicated his life to his family  and will be greatly missed. He is predeceased  by his wife, Teresa DeBlasis and son, Arthur DeBlasis III. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Becker, son-in-law, Ray Becker, and two grandchildren, Erika and Luke Becker.

There will be a private service Tuesday May 7th, 2024 at Blackley Funeral Home and Arthur will be buried with his wife and son at Hoboken Cemetery.
